Parenting Help:
You Are Not Alone

Parenting help comes in all flavors these days - and can run the gamut from child-centered family life to recommendations to send your errant child to some kind of brat camp or boot camp.

It's no secret that many parents are struggling today with one type of behavior problem or another displayed by their children.

For starters, here are some of the possibilities of behavior issues parents might be facing:

  • ADHD or ADD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
  • ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
  • Bi-polar Disorder
  • Angry Teen or Child
  • Aggressiveness in children (biting, kicking, hitting)
  • Lying
  • Stealing
  • Disrespect towards parents and/or teachers
  • Backtalking
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Acting out related to academic frustration
  • Fighting among siblings
  • Bad attitude

.....and this may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Some parents feel their child is totally out of control and have no idea where to begin to get help.

Truly effective parenting help may seem elusive.

Parenting Challenges: Truth is Key

In any type of parenting struggle, getting at the truth behind the behavior is key. Just as a tree produces fruit because there is a solid root system under the ground, so your child's behavior is only a "fruit" - there is something going on under the surface that is creating immense frustration.

Is the answer to make our kids' lives as easy as possible?

If we did, they would stay dependent on us forever, and we certainly don't want that. What we DO want is for our children to begin to take responsibility for their actions and to learn ways to solve their problems.

Knowing what those problems are is the first step.

Does your child have a learning disability that is causing him anxiety or frustration? If you are not sure, then assessment is important. If the behavior is seriously oppositional though, then that needs to be addressed before any assessment would be successful.

Behavior Modification Made Easy

Modifying behavior is never simple - but it doesn't need to be so difficult as to feel impossible, either.

As the parent of 4 children (all of whom were teens at the same time for awhile) as well as an educational therapist to scores of other children over the years, I am pleased when I find a system that makes sense and empowers parents to bring peace back into the home.

I have reviewed and tested such a system and found it incredibly useful for my own children and students. After all, teaching children to take responsibility and solve problems is the most important job in the world! Click the link below for more information.

Child Behavior

Respect and Responsibility

Once respect is re-established and peace reigns in the home, then the possible presence of learning disabilities becomes an easier task to determine. The cooperation of your child is key to any assessment which will, in turn, help you to determine your next step.

There really is parenting help available for all of the above problems and others besides. I encourage you to take the first step to help your child become all he or she can be.
